Getting to know us
Ever since our great grandfather started in 1949, family has been at the heart of everything we do at Sheldon's. We still make bread using Harold's original recipes — and everything you learn in this induction is there to keep that quality safe.
1949
Harold Sheldon started the family bakery from modest beginnings in Manchester.
4 generations
Four generations of the same family have baked here, still using Harold's original recipes.
Today
Sheldons Wholesale Bakers Ltd, 10 Stainburn Road, Openshaw, Manchester M11 2GW — one of the nation's best loved independent family bakeries.
The only reason to change something is if you can improve on it. That is why we have baked our Oven Bottom Muffins, baps, rolls and teacakes the same way for generations.
The finest ingredients
Wheat from sun-soaked European fields and the fattest, juiciest Californian sultanas — nothing less will do.
Farmers we trust
We work with trusted farmers to grow the special wheat that makes our products taste so good. Cut corners here and you'd notice.
Traceable
Ingredients are traceable right through the food chain — in many cases back to the original growers.
Lancashire know-how
Our bakers use skills passed down through generations to lock the goodness in. A Sheldon's bap is every bit as good for you as pricey artisan bread.
Our bread travels a long way from this bakery. You will find Sheldon's in:
Every bap that leaves here carries our name into those stores — which is why hygiene, allergen control and quality matter so much.
The thirteen induction sections and the final quiz are all listed on the contents page.
