If the fire alarm sounds

If you hear the fire alarm, stop what you are doing and leave the building straight away by the nearest fire exit.

  1. 1Stop work and switch off your machine if it is safe to do so
  2. 2Leave by the nearest fire exit — do not go back for belongings
  3. 3Walk, do not run, and do not use any lift
  4. 4Go straight to your fire assembly point
  5. 5Report to the person taking the roll call and stay there
  6. 6Do not go back into the building until you are told it is safe
Only tackle a fire with an extinguisher if you have been trained and it is safe to do so. Raise the alarm first.
